Sharm el Sheikh is host to some of Egypt’s finest resort dining and gives visitors a nearly limitless eating experience. From American fast food to traditional Egyptian cuisine, Sharm el Sheikh hosts an impressive set of options for all sorts of diners. Different national foods all find a place at the resort locations alongside many dining venues which focus on providing a variety of tastes all in one spot.
Egyptian Oriental is a style of eating that is renowned at Sharm el Sheikh and is perhaps the best option for those travelers who really want to experience the closest thing to a traditional, cultural diet. The Fayrouz Restaurant provides food in this style as well as a variety of Lebanese and other Middle Eastern dishes. Tam-Tam and Vino are also great and well-known options for those who wish to eat in the Egyptian style and experience the culture of the region as much as possible.
Various styles of Asian food are available in Sharm el Sheikh. The Sala Thai restaurant offers its namesake’s national cooking, while Kona Kai specializes in Japanese dishes including a wide array of sushi choices. The Waves Restaurant (located within the Ritz-Carlton Hotel) has a high-class Korean menu which is especially popular for its lunch items and Kokai serves delicious Polynesian and Chinese food with nightly 6.30 p.m. grilling shows. Blue Ginger Restaurant (also within the Ritz-Carlton Hotel) offers a blend of different Asian dishes ranging from Malaysian, Thai and Korean items to Chinese and Japanese options.
Indian restaurants such as Camel (located outside the Camel Dive School) provide national dishes such as various curries. The aforementioned Camel is an outside-only restaurant with a great view of the water and is best visited during the warm summer months when the sun and scenery can make the experience sublime. Sofitel is another great Indian restaurant in Na’ama Bay with an extensive menu and fantastic scenery. Bookings can be made for inside or outside of the restaurant. In appropriate weather the patio is excellent as it overlooks the north of the Bay, which allows diners to take in the sight of most of the nearby resorts right from their tables.
Italian restaurants make up a large portion of the dining options available for Sharm el Sheikh visitors. The Café Fresco in the Hyatt Regency prepares a variety of dishes in an effort to provide guests with many different tastes of Italy through a buffet-style experience. Da Franco (located in the Ghazala Hotel) is perhaps the finest of the Italian restaurants available in Sharm el Sheikh. It hosts an excellent menu that specializes in authentic, gourmet pizzas.
The seafood in Sharm el Sheikh is fantastic due to the geographical location, which allows for extremely fresh fish, lobster and more. The Dananeer offers excellent (and reasonably priced) steak and seafood from within a restaurant fashioned with Egyptian-style décor. Safsafa, Sinai Star, Terrasina and Viva are all great choices for fresh seafood as well. Most of these restaurants will offer a listing of specialties and catches of the day so that visitors can choose to order dishes that best represent the great taste of Egyptian, coastal dining.
For diners who want to stick to what they know, Sharm el Sheik offers American fast food chains such as McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut and even TGI Fridays or the Hard Rock Cafe. Although these options don’t provide the kind of Egyptian cuisine a traveler should try to get a real taste of, they still exist at the resort town for picky eaters or those who just want to eat something they know well.
The resorts will also offer Western food options and many of the pubs and bars will have simple menus that provide snacks and small meals for those who just want a little something while out for a drink. Seagull’s Pub is located both on the beach and inside the Movenpick Hotel. It hosts a fairly basic bar menu which can be enjoyed while taking in live nightly shows (such as the popular Russian dancing acts).
There are also a slew of street vendors selling falafel to hungry pedestrians if travelers just want a quick bite on the go. These are a great option for busy shoppers who need to re-fuel before starting up again. Right across the board, everything is at least worth sampling which should go a long way toward ensuring that no visitor to Sharm el Sheikh goes with an empty stomach for long.
